In connection to my last blog about my favorite city, Dumaguete, this blog is about a mystical and mysterious island just 70 kilometers away. It’s the called Siquijor Island or also known as the “Island of Fire” or in Spanish, “Isla del Fuego”. Why was it named this way or why did I call it as a mysterious island?
私のお気に入りの街、ドゥマゲテについての私のブログに関連して、こちらのブログはわずか70キロ離れた神秘的で不思議な島についてです。
それは、シキホール島と呼ばれ、「火の島」またはスペイン語で「イスラ・デル・フエゴ」とも呼ばれています。 なぜそれがこのように命名されたのでしょう、またなぜそれを神秘的な島と呼ぶのでしょうか？
Island of Fire 火の島
It’s called the Island of Fire because of the glow caused by fireflies at night. The island of Siquijor is best known in the Philippines to be a place of magic and sorcery. It is popular because of what we call folk healing and rituals and also, locals are known to use and sell potions made out of different herbs, roots, insects, etc. Interestingly, they have a love potion! It is said that if you use this potion, the person you like will like you back. Crazy isn’t it?
夜はホタルによって引き起こされる輝きのため、火の島と呼ばれています。
シキホール島は、フィリピンでは魔法と魔術で知られているの。
私たちがフォークヒーリングや儀式と呼ぶもののために人気がありますよ。

Tourist Attractions
All these mystical stories aren’t the only thing that makes Siquijor popular. The island is also known for its beaches and tourist attractions. When I was in second year in college, my college dorm mates and I took a day trip to Siquijor.
これらすべての神秘的な物語だけが、シキホール島を人気にさせているわけではないの。
島は、そのビーチや観光スポットとしても知られていますよ。
私が大学2年生になったとき、大学の寮の仲間とシキホールに日帰り旅行をしました。
We left Dumaguete City early in the morning so we were able to see the sunrise over Cebu island.
私たちは朝早くドゥマゲテ市を出たので、セブ島の上に、日の出を見ることができたんです。

Old churches and establishments in Siquijor
This is a tree called Balete tree. It is a hundred year old tree that is believed to hold many mysteries. But under it, there are lots of tiny fishes that will suck your feet when you soak it in the water. It’s ticklish but also relaxing.
これはBalete treeと呼ばれる木です。
多くの謎を持っていると信じられている百歳の木。
でも、その下には、水に浸したとき、あなたの足を吸う小さな魚がたくさんいます。
くすっぐたいけど、リラックスします。

This is Cambugahay Falls. The water is very fresh and clean and you could do a tarzan jump like what I did in the picture!

This is a white sand beach called Salagdoong Beach. They have a slide and a place where you could do a cliff jump that is 20 feet high. I have a video of when I jumped from this beach that you could watch below!
サラゴドンビーチと呼ばれる白い砂浜です。 滑り台と20フィートの高い崖のジャンプをすることができる場所があるのよ。 このビーチから飛び降りたときのビデオをみてね！

In this beach, we ate lunch and did many fun activities and played games for our team-building to bring us closer together.
このビーチでは、私たちは昼食をとり、楽しい活動をして、私たちがもっと親密になるよう、チームビルディングのためにゲームをしました。
After all these, we went home just in time to catch the beautiful sunset.
That’s all everyone! A bit scary and mystical as it sounds, Siquijor is one great island to travel to and to explore. The locals are very friendly and there are many places to go and activities to do. Take it from me and my experience!
全て終わって、私たちは美しい夕日の頃、ちょうど家に帰りました。
これで話は終わりです。 少し怖い、神秘的な、シキホールは、旅行し、探検するための素晴らしい島です。
地元の人たちはとてもフレンドリーで、行くべき場所がたくさんあり、アクティビティをすることができますよ。
