Setting A Goal…
Today, allow me to share a story about my brother – the Marathoner. He was born with a handicap (deaf to be exact) but he never stopped dreaming eversince he was young. He graduated college two times with a degree in Accounting and Bookkeeping and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. But it didn’t end with those “titles” as he pursued further studies and finally became a Web Master. Maybe he thought learning wasn’t enough or as the saying goes: “Learning is a Continuous Process”, he studied Culinary Arts and now a Chef and Professor in a Teaching (University) Hotel in the Philippines.
He tried and is trying to live a normal life and his handicap wasn’t a hindrance to the Goals that he’s trying to achieve.
Being a Marathoner…
A year ago, he tried another field in which he thought he could excel and that is where his passion to run started. He joined a group of Runners in the Philippines and trained to run in a marathon. We were surprised and at the same time admired his determination. He joined a marathon almost every weekend since then and practice twice a week after work. Despite his busy schedule, he tried to manage and budget his time for everything. He had run as far as 100 kilometers (relay) and 50 kilometers (solo) and just last week he joined the Stand Together Marathon in Malaysia with his team.
Upon reaching the 33rd kilometer, he had a leg cramps which caused him pain and hard to run, but he didn’t give up as he walked to the finish line with the time: 05:33:05
No Retreat, No Surrender!
According to my brother, he always have a purpose in running. He offers his every “run” to someone or something special and that is/are his inspiration/s not only in running on a marathon but in “running” his life. He said, no matter how hard it is to live a “normal” life (regardless of the bullying, discrimination, etc.etc.), he will never “surrender” and he will always face his battles in life. His motto is: “No Retreat, No Surrender!”, sounds familiar? 😁

I hope this short story will bring “good vibes” or somehow an inspiration to those who will have the chance to read it.
