今日は、最近、学んだことを
シェアしたいと思います。
私は、小さい頃から大人になるまで
たくさんの習い事やアクティビティを
やってきました。
だから、色々なことを
それなりに出来ます。
でも、人より出来たり
とても得意な訳ではありません。
なぜなら、途中でやめてしまったり
しているから。
Jack of all trades, Master of none
When I was younger, my mother enrolled me in various activities so that I would gain skills.
I was enrolled in art and painting class, piano and guitar lessons, ice-skating and karate.
However, I quit half-way or when I already got bored so I didn’t become great at even one skill.
Here’s a picture of me with my brother, my niece, my nephew and our ice-skating coach:
I would consider myself as a “jack of all trades but a master of none”. 何でもやれる人に優れた芸はない
This figure of speech means that you know how to do certain things but you don’t have something that you’re really good at.
This could be a good thing and sometimes be bad as well and let me tell you why.

Sometimes, I find this to be a good thing because I can say to myself that I have skills like I know how to play the piano and the guitar and I know how to ice-skate. But oftentimes, I would also think to myself that I could’ve been great at playing the piano where I could even become a famous pianist or great at ice-skating that could’ve brought me to the Olympics, but I just chose to be average because I quit half-way. 😕
Important Lesson!
And so, this gave me an important life lesson– whatever you’re doing now, do your best and don’t settle for average.
Aim to be great and to be the best at what you’re doing! 💪
Whether it’s in sports, arts, music, studies or work.
Master a craft or a skill that you have, may it be one or two or three skills.
This is what I always keep in mind now.
