Traditional Grammar teaching and Today’s Lesson
Hi, there.Olga です。
一昨年から、何人もの以前の生徒さんたちが、
高校生や大学生になり、
また、きっこイングリッシュに英会話を
学びに帰ってきてくれています。
中学校や、高校で、力をつけ、
留学する予定がある高校生もいます。
良いレッスンを提供し続けるために、
私たち先生も、出来る限り英語教育セミナーに参加し
教える技術を磨いています。
Last July 23, I attended a Workshop Seminar on how to encourage Junior High school students to speak more in class.
I did some activities that will be helpful in the classrroom too, like Q and A about a given situation/picture illustration; how to teach grammar effectively; and how essay writing can be used to speak more in class.
Comparison between Focus on forms: Traditional Grammar teaching and Today’s Lesson
Traditional Grammar Teaching – Learners focus on just forms and do grammar practice without understanding the meaning of the sentences.
Focus on Form instruction (2 ways) – Today’s lesson:
A. Incidental focus on form instruction – is an extensive activity and out-put based instruction which is essay writing which particular forms are not targeted in advance.
B. Planned focus on form instruction – provides input and output simultaneously while focusing on the meaning of target grammar.
– Students notice the form-meaning connection.
In addition, we would like to apply the Integrated Skill approach (by Brown 2001) which is a whole language approach where if a course deals with reading skills, it will also deal with listening, speaking and writing skills.
Please continue following our blogs for we still have more updates to post.
Thank You.
Olga
